I am single with two adult children, one in London and one in Wellington. I have owned a business and HR consulting company for many years. Last year I decided life was short (perhaps a mid life crisis!) I stopped working, sold my house in Wellington, put everything into storage and went travelling with a backpack. I spent a month walking the Camino in Spain, swimming around the Greek Islands and working my way through the Balkans before stopping in the UK to see family and taking a few weeks out in Thailand. For the last six months I have been living in Tamworth, Australia. I know, what was I thinking? After the drought, raging bushfires and now Covid 19, I've decided to come home for a rest and see my daughter. I'm not ready to buy a house just yet so housesitting seems a smart solution while I settle into NZ life again.

What are your house sitting experiences?

I have house sat for friends in the past on an informal basis, and more formally, before leaving NZ last year since my own house had sold some months earlier. They were a retired couple who had gone away in their campervan. They came back to their house having had a spring clean makeover.

How are you with animals?

I am comfortable with most animals, apart from snakes (I suspect unlikely in NZ!) I had a horse for many years and have been grooming and exercising a horse in Tamworth for a friend. I have also owned three dogs in the past, a Boxer, a Japanese Spitz and a Labradoodle, all hilarious and adorable. I miss them so much.

What makes a good house sitter?

"I have owned many houses over the years and appreciate the commitment and effort (and money) it takes to keep them up to scratch. It is your home and sanctuary and you will want someone who understands that. I am a little fanatical about having a clean and tidy house so you can be assured your house will be in excellent shape when you return. I love gardening so outdoor maintenance is no trouble. I'm a bit of a DIY specialist and have renovated many houses in the past. If there are any minor issues, I will no doubt be able to fix them or ensure they are fixed professionally, assuming your approval. I believe I am fairly self managing so you will not have to endure endless emails or texts asking annoying questions while you are away As you will have seen, I am fairly fit and active and there is nothing I enjoy more than long walks with happy dogs.
